Unique Selling Point – Do You Have it for your Business?

Feb 28, 2018 | Business Marketing | 0 comments

unique selling point

USP is an acronym for a unique selling point or unique selling proposition. It is what differentiates you from all your competitors in your marketplace. The unique selling point makes you unique from others who offer similar products or services to the ones you offer. It persuades customers to do business with you rather than others. It also gives you a distinct advantage over others.

Do You Know Your Unique Selling Point?

Knowing your unique selling point is so vital to your business. If you are not yet clear about your uniqueness, then it’s hard to succeed. Other companies offer products or services like the ones you offer. But how do you survive the competition if you don’t have anything unique that makes people buy from you and not from others?

Unique Selling Proposition

Unique Selling Proposition

In today’s competitive world, you must spend ample time differentiating your products, services, and entire business from the competition. You have to think about making your business stand out from the crowd, withstand the competition and make money.

Have You Ever Thought About It?

Remember that everyone offers professional expertise, quality products, services and value for money. If you also position yourself as someone who provides the same, it may be challenging to attract customers to buy from you. To stand out, you will have to say something else that is unique and different.

Coming up with a unique selling point is something you should consider carefully. Think about it deeply to identify your uniqueness. You should be clear about what you do or want to start doing to communicate what differentiates you from your business competitors. After recognising your originality, you must build your brand name with it. Convey it to everyone you do business with and in various ways.

What Is a Useful Unique Selling Point?

A valid unique selling point should find the solution to the problem of your targeted customers. Your unique selling proposition should focus on what they want and what they will benefit from you.

Unique Selling Point Example

Unique Selling Point Example

For instance, if you have a web design company and your customers’ problems are having a slow-loading website, you can quickly determine that they need highly optimised fast-loading websites. They also prefer sites created in the shortest possible time frame. For demonstration purposes, you can come up with the following USPs:

A fast loading website designed in just a week.

A quick and simple website with pages loading in less than 5 seconds.

A web designing business that meets your online marketing needs within a week

Nice-looking and fast-loading websites designed by an experienced online marketer within a week.

In the examples above, you notice that each unique selling point provides a solution to the customers’ problems. It defines what they want to fulfil their needs. If your targeted customers come across those messages and find out that you are a better person to meet their needs, you stand a high chance of doing business with them.

Is It Enough to Have a Unique Selling Point Alone?

Not at all. Having a unique selling point and communicating it to your potential customers is not enough. You have to be part of everything you do because having your unique selling proposition only in words doesn’t work and will NEVER work for you. Live it by showing it to your customers in action. It’s essential to show what you stand for by doing it.

Conclusion

As a piece of advice, consider developing a unique selling point for your business to take it to another level. Communicate it to your targeted customers on your website, in your adverts, on your business cards, and in any other ways, you believe necessary.

In conclusion, you should live what you stand for by showing it in your actions. It’s your actions that will substantiate and speak louder than your words. In our subsequent posts, I will enlighten you on how to create a unique selling point and live it.
